Grateful for Mrs A for taking the opportunity to clean out/sort out the car , the cases and some washing and for letting me disappear for a couple of hours back down to the old city of Dubrovnik.
So most of this is from me today --
what a treat today I got the pins out - had to be done.
So I decided that once I was inside the city I would go up to the highside to the left to the highest parts of the city , apart from the ramparts of course.
There was a time I believe that I would never have been able to do the amount of walking or stair climbing that I am able to do today and for that I am very grateful.
So I came up here and am going up there--- keep up you lot we've got a lot to get through --
So generally speaking headed up to this tower and good to know that if you were inclined to get a problem, there is medical support at the highest point -- funny that -- a little later there was a medical transit van arrived in the city.
Anyway, as you will note from the many similar pictures , I really love this architecture and the periods in history where it belongs-- I think the engineering understanding then was quite amazing.
There were a number of enclaves where they kept certain stone items such as these behind lock and key like this and as they were all up along the highest point, you would have to say that this was good planning as there is only one way to carry them and that is down.
Down this middle street and came across another throne wonder who was copying whom
Lots more churches looked at and the geezer on the top looks to be a pretty important person -- strange it's not a woman.
Following the GOT theme I believe that these were the steps on which Cersie stood -- and there's me and you have 10 seconds to sort out the old from the ancient.
Just love this stonework
Random shots
The guy in the middle below pops up a lot at most churches and most entrances -- oh and I think the lad on the right is standing guard.
Just loved this arch in the centre -- a real interesting amount of embellishment above. Also the main clock tower
Here's yer man again waving like mad at the good folk below.
That's it then, the old city done and this is a shot of the Fort next to the city from a different angle on my way home.
I deviated from the main road and walked through a park a bit lower down and it is the first bit of graffiti I have really seen-- so one last selfie before we leave Dubrovnik.
And finally , as I got back to the villa and the sun had come out , so had this mob , looking to pounce on anything that catches their fancy - glad that ruled me out then
Finally comment on our stay in Dubrovnik -- it has to be the cleanest city on the planet, great signage , friendliest people and the most helpful-- yes they want your money but always keen to help when they can so thanks from us both.
So now we travel north tomorrow and cross one of the weirdest borders in all of Europe where Croatia is split in 2 by having a tiny piece of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the way , so hoping no issues from this on our travel north.
Bok.
That architecture is amazing. Good luck with the border crossing.
