When we wrote out our road trip, we put down places of interest that we would enjoy staying at.
Saltzburg was one of those that could have Hitlers retreat in the mountains or the Sound of Music.
So when we found out that the Retreat would not be open until June the 1st, I faced the horrendous thought of having to skip through a meadow in lederhosen, trying to imitate my names sake in singing the Hills are Alight . Makes me shiver just thinking about it.
Ah well, it appears that there are one or two other programs that we can take part in so I might just be able to wriggle out of that one.
But all this is getting ahead of my self.
Left North Croatia and headed off to find Saltzburg via Slovenia.
The biggest problem is that if your hoping to capture great pictures and visions then you need to drive through a country that does not have the volume of tunnels that we have been through.
See -- not much to see in hear
There are many towers that tell you that your just passing a village or town -- you don't see much else that gets hidden by the forests
Occasionally Lynda gets a bit excited when we pass one of these
Captured the crossing point for Slovenia -- Had this worrying conversation with a customs officer when Lynda asked if she would stamp the passports and this lady said the it would be 10 Euros - each, so when Lynda offered to leave me instead , the lady looked quite excited -- very worrying and good job I kept some loose change on me.
Very Green and you can understand why every house has a large stack of logs outside-- they don't need much else when they have the amount of forests there.
Lots of Schlosses we passed by
And the occasional pretty doer upper
I have to have the odd Construction shot and this was a great structure being built
Ok so there must be another village
Of course when in Austria, you are gonna see a lot of mountains and still with some snow hanging around--
And another village
And another--
We looked in plenty of meadows but failed miserably to find Julie Andrews-- mind you if we had of found her , seeing her prancing around with her Zimmer frame is not a nice thought.
A very smart looking Schloss near to Saltzburg
Oh yes and when we got over the border from Slovenia the Sat Nav kicked in perfectly to help us get to the Villa Carlton Hotel below
So we had a wander down to the city for a look around and to get fed --
The balloon below with MAZDA plastered over it appeared to follow us around -------------and I loved this shot of a church below
A little selfie by the Salzsbach River was definitely in order
It would appear that the whole of Europe is in on this padlock love bit only on this one went right across the whole of the bridge.
Not sure as to this monument but gonna find out -- also the tunnel
And no Lynda - there is no chance that I will ever wear these
Lots of smart streets, shops and there is that pesky balloon again
And it seams that someone told them that we were coming and that there is a conspiracy to get me to indulge in The Sound of Music -- not a prayer
And while those that know me will no I am not the greatest fan , we needed to get a change from the continuous restaurant meals and after this trip and the walk around -- I am afraid to say that this had to be done.
So that's it , after over 2000 kilometres , here we are in another new place for the next 2 days and we can chill out and prep up for the next leg on Monday.
Really enjoying the closeness with my best mate and looking forward to our walk around the city in detail today.
Auf Weidesehen.
