And all this on my mates birthday as well so you have to try to put on a brave face and not upset his day, especially as he is a Manc and they won, well it is all a bit much really.
Apart from the fact that if we had found a sports bar that had the game on , we would have seen only about half an hour of it cause I totally screwed up the times it would have started by an hour so all in all not a very auspicious start to the day, so you do try to hope that things could only get better.
Well, the girls went shopping in PS main street and appear to have had a great time with Lisa spending the day in this little $8 bargain of a purple and black long summer dress number, for when we weren't in the water.
Hugh and I waited in the car for them with swimming bags packed to go to find the Desert Spa resort that we had been told about yesterday morning.
This is the place and they do a whole range of spa treatments as well as having about 8 pools that have minerals in and take the heat from the ground, -- bearing in mind that this resort is on the line of the San Andreas fault --reassuring isn't it -- and the pools vary in temperatures so that your body gets a right good cleaning.
So Lynda and Lisa chose to have some facial and pedicure treatments--a little pampering--while Hugh and I did a few circuits around the 8 pools and ended up like shrivelled up Prunes--they don't tell you that in the brochures.
Kind of a strange place because it is a hotel/motel and I am not sure I would want to be in a place that hundreds of Joe public descend on the place for an $7 bucks per person admission and nicking all the beds--be just like in Europe when the beds all get taken by our enthusiastic European friends from the mainland--they havn't come across Lynda yet so she would sort them out pretty quick.
You do lots of sitting around chatting in all these spa pools or hot tubs that the American's favour so much.
It is clearly unusual for those of us that do not possess such a thing as a hot tub in the back garden -- not too many around the sunshine of Carshalton in Surrey, so are not used to the kind of sitting around for hours on end chatting to complete strangers, but I have to say that it was actually quite pleasant having the craic with these 2 lads of Mexican decendancy about lives, sport , jobs, kid's and Jesus Christ--well, you never know who the stranger is or what turns them on until much later in the conversation, so you have to go with the flow.
All in all a good choice for the afternoon although no-one is going to convince me that I can spend 2 hours sitting in a pool and reading a paper back--I am not that patient and the book would be wringing before I got to the who dunnit bit.
In the evening we went into the Palm Canyon for dinner at The Kaiser Grille----you getting this kind of German flavour to the story today--towels on sunbeds, last dinner with friends at such a restaurant---anyway this is the place---
It is certainly one of the better places in the street and for our last evening with Hugh and Lisa here in PS it was a great place to go--
Rather an interesting little number that Hugh chose to drink while the rest of us chose to drink Heineken and a great bottle of Sauvignon Blanc-- a micro beer--but not sure that he didn't find there was a little empathy inside him with the title there--- the top word is Naked BTW
The lovely couple who were so messing around like a couple of school kids ---I know that their children will recognise that trait-- so I am surprised that Lynda managed to get a good shot at all---
A cool photo at the beginning of our main course and I have to say that the food was amazing so a good choice methinks----
Ok so they are being daft again---
This then led to a final closing couple of shots with Marilyn--knickers and all--wouldn't have minded a dollar for everyone who posed with the statue and surprised they didn't do something with donations and charities as I am sure that many people would have dropped a dollar for a photo.
It is a pretty amazing statue and the skin is a really lifelike colour.
Ok so these lovely people disappear today in their car over the mountain and back to San Diego and then a flight back to Seattle.
So we wont be treated to a further array of different shorts every day nor the array of a different silk shirt every day or combinations that are having a punch up with each other.
We also wont have to get ready to go out only to find that there is a half hour delay while someone finishes his ablutions- it ends up just like the plane when they are sorry to announce a half hour delay due to mechanical problems that end up more like 2 hours.
Now it is either just as we get older one gets a little more eccentric and therefore allowances have to be made, especially with old fellas with incredibly bad taste in fashion.
But I like to think that Hugh has spent many years in developing this and cultivating a style and manner, just to go ungracefully into the future caring not a jot for peoples opinion and truly doing everything possible ------------to wind people up.
Farewell then chaps, Kalotoxithi, and till we meet again---
For Lynda and me it is back to the Pool and the books, before we get to LA.
And for the rest, and I hope with Chelsea against Basle this week in the CL, normal service will be resumed ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope...............
