So we decided that we would continue with the current theme of this week of visiting places that we had been previously--mostly with friends Rod & Ann -- and head for Temecula in California--it is wine growing region so a bit of education and tasting is likely to be on the cards.
Lynda suggested that we take out a best western hotels rewards card before we left the UK and because we have used them a few times to stay in , we get a couple of nights in the one at Temecula for free, which is always good.
The other thing is that it will apparently be 112 degrees tomorrow so I think in this instance, discretion will definitely be the better part of valour.
So yesterday we went for a drive around and did the normal pose on The London Bridge---
This is it -- for those of you who never saw the original London Bridge---impressive isn't it.
Although at the time this was sold in the 70's, and we Brits all heaved ourselves laughing at the "stupid" Americans , with more money than sense and they thought they were getting tower bridge--rubbish--they knew exactly what they were doing. And Tower Bridge would not have worked here.
They created Lake Havasu City in the 70's, by constructing the Dam for there energy requirements, and with that came enormous opportunity, which these guys fully exploited. Bet the money we got from selling the bridge didn't go as far as the money that the visitors bring in to the USA every single year.
Just think, we could have taken it up to Liverpool and stuck it over the Mersey---that would be something worth going there for.
This one of course had to be done -- a little bit of London meets a little bit of London.
Now how about that--this is right beside the bridge--almost makes you think of tourists visiting when you can create places like this---Yeah OK, it's all a bit artificial--so what, the Americans use such things as a back drop to the likes of conferences that generate huge revenue, which is great for a struggling economy.
A little bit of London --via Ipswich and Middlesborough---and a little bit of London part 2
In one of the blogs previously when we were all in Cody at the Rodeo, I said that I was proud to stand for the Stars and Stripes being played, and how we really enjoyed the spectacle of patriotism that we were watching---well can someone explain to me how the Americans can Fly the Union Jack in America , above the bridge they bought from us 40 odd years ago , when we British cannot fly our Union Jack outside our town halls--it is a disgrace and for me , the British people better start standing up and fighting for what is our Right before we lose everything to Political Correctness.
See what I mean about mixing the historic with the local environment and for what the visitors expect to see---and it looks mighty fine here I might add---and for those youngsters--the bridge here in America had to be replaced in the UK, as the old one could not cope with the future demands.
Oh, and another Pool that is there for her sole use---of course.
Lots of beach areas
Lots of swimming in the Lake
Dozens of Marinas and thousands of Boats---- This has to be the only place I have ever seen where the houses are built not only with a garage for the car but a large garage next to it for the boat--only in America, but so cool.
It does get very hot of course and people have to adjust to this--I suspect there have been thousands of students who have come here for the spring break that have gone home very pink.
Really glad to have done the return visit to this place and after a really nice meal at a place called the Mudshark Brewery---
---which is a restaurant and bar but more importantly is a brewer of Micro beers---I had a brilliant one called the chamber of commerce cream ale and went down so well with the meal.
So I need to get need to get cracking and we need to hit the road--the journey is around the 300 mile mark and need to get on the road.
So it will be hasta la vista baby and California dreaming here we come--"All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray------California Dreaming on such a ------------------------
