It is really good to be able to have this kind of evening with the cooking facilities here and a pleasant place to eat, what was not a bad bit of cooking even if I do say so myself--steak, burgers and sausages as well as veggie burgers for Mike--big fella like him and a vegetarian--go figure.
This came after a day a bit of a drive around, a bit of shopping and a bit of swimming - another lazy day in paradise.
So here we are after breakfast and very nice it was out on the patio around the pool and so very warm.
Yesterday when we were out there we were invited to sit at a table with a canopy by this American couple who it turns out that they had been married for just 9 years after they had met through the church.
Now having breakfast with two people in their 50's who have found such love for each other is wonderful, quite beautiful in it's way. However when the lady starts telling you that for all those years before meeting her now husband, she was only there to serve God and that he was keeping her special and celibate and only for him until he released her to her husband, well it is starting to get to a place that for me at least is a little uncomfortable.
Now with the husband, who patiently listens to this and is hovering with his Bible in his hands while we are having breakfast and then starts quoting John , chapter--- " And God said------- well that starts to get even more uncomfortable.
Don't get me wrong, I find it really amazing that someone can have such faith, such cast iron certainty in their beliefs and that their faith allows them to be so connected with their God---I envy these kind of people because I do not know what I really believe.
I believe in my family, I believe in the power of positive thinking, I believe that if you clearly know what you set as your plan for the future and that you work hard then you are likely to achieve them, I try to be a good person and do try to help other people always-----but whether there is a God and an afterlife, a heaven and hell and that our souls really exist and will be what is saved after death, then I have to say I am confused, do not truly understand how there can be this deity that we are supposed to worship unflinchingly and dedicate our life to him--still cant work out why not a her or an it come to that.
Life is hard for most people--some more so than others and I believe that for most people they will be spending most of their time worrying about how they will make ends meet and pay the bills and give their family the best they are possibly able to do.
Let me explain where my confusion comes in--- If there is a God , and he is all powerful, and has made man in his image and all this stuff---does that mean the God is as flawed as us humans --because if he made us and we are all sinners and we are in his image is he the same.
Equally, we will not get to heaven if we are sinners who don't repent, well where I get confused is , if this all powerful entity wants everyone to be good , to not be sinners, to not succumb to temptation, to not kill each other or rape or steel or anything like that then why didn't he just make us in the way that these things would not even be in the psyche of humans to do--he could have stopped these things before they even occurred.
Why did he not stop this happening
I cannot find a way to say that I agree with the theory that there is this being that wants to test humans to see if they succumb to the temptations etc---that makes no sense, as does the wars that continue, the killings that take place, and all the bad things that humans do to each other--- if this Being is all powerful, why did he not just make people nice---that they love each other---that there is not hate and no jealousy , no envy and that people help each other, love thy neighbour and the like.
If there is this kind Being that is all around us, who can "save " us all, then how can he allow people to starve, and suffer appalling tragedy and illnesses without lifting anything to help them -- this I will never understand.
Nor will I ever understand why the self elected leaders of religious orders live in palaces and live like millionaires while the people they preach to about God and sacrifice, who are poor and have nothing but their faith, have to watch as these leaders live like royalty--who ever said that this is what God expected of them--only a human will have said that the Pope needs to live in a golden palace in its own city---what kind of God would see these church leaders , living so well and comfortably while the ordinary people starve and fight illness---which BTW if he was that powerful there would be no cancer.
Who said this was where and how they had to live---humans!
Just sell all this stuff and feed and help the people that need it.
Now , I just want to add that this is me talking and does not reflect the views of Lynda or anyone else in the family--I do hope that the children have been taught to have their own opinions and beliefs and that they will live their lives accordingly.
Ok , so that is a little aside for the day from me but this morning did throw up one thing that we should also be careful of ---when we say goodbye to the American religious couple this morning and explain to the other couple we were having breakfast wit this morning---a young just married German couple that we were being a little bit preached at by the couple who just left, and that the guy had his bible and was quoting from that the day before -- it was a bit disconcerting when the young German lady states that they had put their own bible down to come to breakfast and would read a little more when they returned to their room.
Lets hope for the future there is more of this and less of the preaching---
Stopping Malaria
Provide sanitary water and stop Dysentery
But if there is some greater being out there who can pick up on my Blog then from me -- Please help make the world a better safer healthier place for everyone.
Right , enough of that, Ta Ta Mike and Di, safe journey and really great to meet and spend some time her in the Royal Sun , PS.
