So missing out on the Strazburg Marathon meant that we had to come up with something else energetic top do today and we did that with half a mind to get away from the DJ and continuous revelry from the marathon announcer and we found just the place -- up, up we go.
So the Blog has to start somewhere and that's me , bashing out on the keys this morning
We had the wonderful site of these extremely fit folk in Strazburg doing their thing in the marathon here today -- real shame that Lynda and I overslept.
So a stroll down through the marathon route on our way to get up to the Museum and to the Castle.
There is the obligatory crossing of the river and a capturing the nearest of many church spires.
The following are on our way up to the Museum.
There is of course always a few live bands by the side of the marathon route and an interesting group of houses that are built into the side of the cliff faces.
So this is the fr4ont of the Museum and we were told that one of the biggest disappointments was that when the Guggenheim offered funds for something very special to be built , there was a plan to build it down into the rock - something quite unique but instead those that make the decisions decided that the cost was too prohibitive -- shame really -- we have seen what people are capable of when we stayed in the underground hotel in Coober Peddy in Australia.
The museum is not that which we would normally be used to -- the first level was a good exhibition about the way that humans and the world are hell bent on destroying itself.
Definitely worth a read on a subject I am going to bang on about as long as I am able.
The structure is very clinical - pretty much all polished concrete and glass.
The exhibitions themselves were actually given to art -- some folk art, some modern art by artists that I have not heard of --- Asger Jorn, born in 1914 and died in 1973.
Also Ernst Ludwig Kirchner -- I thought it was the name of a jet washer -- no disrespect intended.
I am sure that it is as its title Modern Museum and study centre, but it was all a bit above my head -- probably needed more time.
So when we left this is the view of the target for where we are going next - the castle -- and we are walking a couple of kilometres to get there -- the weather though was so good , sunny and warm that it was great. Oh and yes that is the finishing line of the Marathon down below
There would appear to be a Schloss on every hill around
At least there are watering points around of course its probably all come from the Alps as the snow melts.
Its hard to really show the amount of steps up and down that we had to manoeuvre, but it was a really great walk and the castle is in pretty good shape .
The view through the opening on the right above shows a white building in the middle of the view in the trees and that is the museum where we walked from.
These next two pictures are from the torture chamber
So after all that walking I said it would be great to find a more simple way to get down -- should have kept quiet cause Lynda came up with this idea.
So that's it , Salzburg done, getting packed up to go and to start the next leg of our journey to Lake Como.
I know I speak for Lynda when I say that we would recommend Salzburg to anyone looking for somewhere for a long weekend trip, to somewhere that the people are friendly , where it is as clean as anything you've seen, where there are so many things to see -- we did not get to the salt mines but apparently Charlotte did, where the food is great and the wine aint bad either.
So if you get the chance -- well -- just do it.
Gutton Nacht.
