The Reno Wrap

RENO - NEVADA

I think Reno is a great example of a place that Lynda and I would have a hard time working out how to handle more that a day in a casino resort like the one in Reno.

I mean , there is a combination of the Silver Legacy, the Eldorado and Circus Circus , and they are all linked together so I guess that you don't have to leave this complex at all, when you want a change you can move around to the zillions of bars and restaurants there are between the three-- and of course the variety of restaurants and great shows that are put together.

Then there are the opportunity to soak up the sun on roof tops at the pools that keeps you away from the street level and the "ordinary" folk that wander around there---

It has to be said that every minute of every day there is something to do ---- of course there is always the Gambling --- yeah ok , so that's what most go to Reno for----

However there is for me an issue for those -- and it was only a few of us -- people that wish to wander around OUTSIDE the complexes -- say to go for a short walk to a chosen restaurant for dinner that is not in the complex.

Not sure of Lynda's feelings but I found walking on the streets near to the Casinos , quite threatening with some of those who were out on the street -- homeless, drunks or those looking for a scam that doesn't include work.

For sure you can see the same in any City , the world over but it just felt a bit more in your face than usual.

I am pretty cool with many dozens of towns and cities around the world but Reno at street level was just a bit different-- especially when we went to dinner by the river.

I know that this is a fun place for our friends from Portland and they always enjoy coming here and if we did it more often then I might feel a little different.

Anyway, enough of all that preaching, we had a great day yesterday-- bit of a shopping thing in the middle of the day-- if was fun-- and then the pool followed by the evening where we found a couple of excellent things to do on a Saturday night in Reno---

Firstly we went to see this----

These actors were great and it was good to see that while they might not have Yorkshire accents, their take on the same issues on unemployed factory workers is the same. For a regional show this was a great way to spend 2 hours and we loved it.

After that we were both famished and had decided that to round of our trip to Reno with anything but one of  ten best restaurants in town -- and in our complex , wold not be right so we went to Sterlings--

The Ribeye was outstanding and so was Lynda's Filet mignon and the service from top man Morgan Matre'd and winter ski instructor, was the best.

Found a real nice little Pinos Gris--
Always nice to find one that we have yet to try that turns out to be really tasty, and this certainly was -- Ok so we didn't have red with the steaks but for us it was a white night.

We finished with a little final gamble -- $20 and Lynda got back $40 so a good way to finish.

So that's Reno done for us-- will we come back-- never say never but on the start of our journey to Colorado and Yeah Ha.
