Yep, none of this for a week -- I really wonder what our grandchildren and children for that matter would have made of this --- I personally think they would have freaked. It would have meant that they would have had to talk , do active things , go to bed reasonably early, and wake up looking refreshed---- but I think if they ad seen the folk -- and that includes all of the different children there they would have been very surprised at how much fun the activities , planned or not , actually were--- and I saw no signs of F.O.M.O. anywhere-----
You know the kind of thing---
Anyway, back to our week without any tech support at all---- Tuesday we travelled from Moab in Utah to Antonito (* or a little north of there ) to Rainbow Trout Ranch in Colorado.
My chauffer/ partner, doing a great job as ever---
This was our 4th visit and there is an attraction here that overrides others that we go to --- well , I love it anyway.
Above is the view of the valley as we drive down the side of the mountain coming from Pagosa Springs and remember that we are talking 10,000 feet elevation here-- the Ranch is at 9000 Ft.
The above is the owners accommodation down from the lodge--
And the entrance to the Ranch and the Van Berkum family that greet you --
On Wednesday we started with the first ride and we were blessed with it being just Lynda , Me and the Boss David Van Berkum -
One of the boss-- I think that's the most talk we have ever had with David since we have been going there , it was a wonderful ride and we saw some different weather elements-- beautiful sunshine for the most but later rolling thunder and a couple of big lightning hits nearby to us but the rain held of into late afternoon so no interruption on things like the fishing.
The next day we did a lot of river crossings , which are always fun when you have the possibility of spooking the horse or if it just wants to lay down -- as Lynda is aware of---
Ok so just a bit of showing off--
And these below were the Cowpokes -- or the children to you and me--- off on their ride
So here are a couple of shots of our cabin on the ranch for us for a week but the log pile dramatically reduced to compensate for Lyndas desire to change the cabin for a sauna every night--- it was good and was romantic/snug -- you know the kind of thing-----
Trying -- unsuccessfully -- to get a signal
Log pile on its way down-- I think there was some serious wood felling after we left -- :-)
And no comments please that the name of our cabin was Couger--they were all animal-- no other references thank you ---
Really cosy place though .
So we managed to capture some shots from the river with the great help for us old folk from Sam the fishing Man----
Me shooting the breeze with Sam
Cool early on but got mighty warm later---
Those above are just to prove that we can fish in the same spot without falling out---
I love this fly fishing -- so peaceful and better still if you catch something ---
But the winner most definitely was Mrs A---
And don't she look happy about it -- nice Rainbow--
So to finish Part one has to be through the wonderful singing of Mr Will Dudley -- a Country and Western singer that has been doing one night a week for about ten years and while I am not the greatest fan of C&W, if it is done right then it's pretty darn good--- for me he sounds a bit like Willie Nelson.--- Ok so you don't know who that is -- look him up heathen--
If David & Jane are the working bosses of the ranch then this is the Patriarch and the man who built this business up , from being a teacher to a man committed to building something special for people and succeeding---
And to finish up part 1 here is Doug and Linda - The Matriarch-- Van Berkum , I guess you would call them together -- the team behind the team.
The appropriate picture to finish with ---- Part 2 coming by popular ( well it might be in some remote places on the planet) tomorrow -- This is calling ---
Happy Trails people.
