Our Last Post at the Alamo

I am one who never says never but I am probably 98% certain that Lynda and I will not return to San Antonio after this -- 3rd I think -- visit to a city that we both like very much.

Not only the Alamo but within easy striking distance for so many places that are not too far away-- Houston --corpus Christi -- Austin and of course Mexico via El Paso.

Of course within the city you have views to die for when you visit the San Antonio Tower right in the centre.

The Jewel in the crane though is the Mission at the Alamo  pictured below , which we have been around twice so no third time today but truly a great place with the fact that this is the building where they all died in adds to its awesomeness -- been dying to say that-- it really has atmosphere rather than if it was in a modern building.

Amazing amount of modern-ish architecture that still has the ornate decoration of the Spanish and their influences.

Above is this simple version of some of the story.

So this statue has the image of Colonel Travis's wife who was allowed to leave with the young black boy on the donkey-- whether that was how they left I am unsure but it's close enough.

So these are the main characters that we know most about -- William Travis , Davy Crockett and William Bowie -- as I said before I am in awe of people in history who with massively overwhelmed odds against them have stood up to invading armies and caused them massive problems , even if they ended up being massacred.

It might not be one of my actual Chelsea FC shirts it still bares the logo so it counts-- each time I have visited I have had a CFC shirt on.

All the way around it is now such a peaceful setting and has been kept so well.
Couldn't do this without a selfie but getting photo bombed by some big fat geezer cant be right can it?

A quick shot of the boss on a stroll

This really pretty area even has been created to maximise the social side of things with a bandstand and a square that has mostly removed the traffic.
From here we went to look around the Riverwalk Shopping Mall and in particular, Macy's - which I successfully found some levi's that I liked -- Oh and 36" waist and not 38" anymore -- the incentive is that I need to keep this way to be able to get the appropriate wear from them.

So from there it inevitably required a stroll down onto the Riverwalk itself as we strolled back to the Hotel.

If you didn't know before , San Antonio works on two main level's -- one at road level which is the business level and most of the shops and tourists attractions, such as the Alamo , and then there is the relaxation , the wining and dining or just out for a stroll or a ride on one of these gondola's.

The picture below is of a landscape gardener and how the city deal with all the plants needed at the riverwalk level

A  couple of places that we have  the RainForest that we have eaten and drank in previously that might need to be visited - Rod & Ann will remember the Mad Dog British Pub I think -- the barman had a fairly swinging Kilt on at that time -- wonder if he has had to resort to putting anything on under it .

There is something special for me when I see stuff like the name the Texas Rangers -- shame the Museum was closed
Hopefully there will be a couple of photos from our dinner tonight -- we have both agreed -- there is gonna be Steak involved for us both tonight -- we have a need for red meat and not just any but Texas Steak and maybe a bottle of Pinot Noir to assist in the washing of it down.

So as promised here are some of the
snaps from dinner Wednesday evening and I have to say I have not had a steak as good as this in a very long time -- Ribeye , my favourite.

Highly recommended

Had to be done on one of the small bridges.

Onion Rings and breaded mushrooms -- hav'nt had these since I was around 16
These were proper steaks and the peppering on the outside was amazing

Had a great bottle of Californian Pinot Noir called Bogle -- it was delicious gonna get some of that elsewhere

Lynda was very happy with the food and the wine -- we spoilt ourselves

So cheers everyone and we are looking forward to the next leg between here in Texas and the town of Carlsbad in New Mexico tomorrow -- 7 hours driving but no problem for us.

The A team rides again.
