A Trogaladite Life for Us

That's it , totally sold on living underground after a night spent in the Desert Cave Hotel, underground rooms --- imagine, no windows to clean, no curtains, no nosey neighbours, no noise---I mean not one single sound except what you generate yourself --- but more of that later.

So I filled up with fuel as we left Port Augusta-- well I only have to do something daft once to learn but even then I refilled about half a tank after we stopped for a coffee on the way to Coober Pedy.

about another 550 kilometres drive.

So we saw a lot of this
 And this---
 And this---
 And this--
But then you go and see something absolutely amazing like this ---

The largest salt lake I have ever seen just goes off never to be seen the end--- incredible.

Then we saw this-- it caused us a de3lay but great to see how other countries move stuff like this around -- especially in Mining Country--these were very large--

And then we went and saw these, just when I thought I couldn't see anything larger---
 And they were absolutely delicious

So here we are in Australia , and we come here for any number of reasons but when you are here there are things that you just have to see, so when you don't your gonna start to think that you have been short changed.

So you want to see the Sydney harbour Bridge , preferably on new years eve with the fireworks -- tick
You want to see the harbour and opera house -- tick.
You want to meet up with long lost relatives, ones not seen for decades -- tick.
You want to see Summer Bay (well at least Lynda does ) and that is gonna happen.
You wanna see these Emu things---

Tick

But when it comes to these , the only ones we have seen are 6 roadkill bodies by the side of the road--- I mean it's seeing Skippy for goodness sake---where are they---not here anyway--cant all have been knocked down--
Have to do with the picture for the time being but if I don't see one in the wild before we go back I want my money back and I will make representation to the Australian High Commission.

So we finally got to Coober Pedy around mid afternoon and the following are a selection of the amazing hotel complex--

This truck sign above signifies the mining pullies they used for bringing up the material and tipping out in heaps for looking for opals---
The entrance to the Hotel and some indigenous artwork below-- really nice but nowhere to put anything--not with Dubai coming up anyway--
So Pauline Watkins was thought of when we were looking at the artwork and thinking how much you would have enjoyed it but Dick wouldn't have liked the music-- not sure he could make that thing work blowing through his nose----
Our room above and me after the long drive--couldn't take too much of the sun-- very hot

All part of what was the original mining caves entrances---
Some very fine dining here too--we had a great Thai Beef Salad and then went and spoilt it all with the dessert below which was amazing--- naughty but nice----

She really does hate here photo being taken but I love her and so will keep trying to find the best shots--
All of the whole of the town were mine workings back in the day but most are now museum exhibits

 Gotcha---
Shopping inside the caves-- thank goodness that she doesn't like Opels----
and finally another of Lynda's selfies with the camera, -- she is getting good---

So having finished this I have to say, that sleeping underground , even for one night only is very spooky, a little claustrophobic---actually a lot claustrophobic--- and one that leaves you wondering about what happens in the event of a cave in --- I mean -- all the miners have gone so whose gonna do the digging.

Ah well, we are out of there having breakfast so only gotta go back for the cases --- now where do they hide the rope-----well , you don't think I am going back in there without one do you----
