On the drive down the predominance of the views are of this stuff-----
Sugarcane
And trust me when I say that along with the train line that follows the road this is about all you see from Cape Trib down to Brisbane on this highway---
There were however some odd -- and I mean odd-- exceptions such as this next photo shows---
We were told to keep an eye out for the Big Banana or the Big Pineapple but no-one mentioned the Big Mango--- well we passed it and got the shot-- but if you are there in this 2 kangaroo town , you would have to say "WHY"--- I mean it is not as if the good folk of Australia don't know that they grow mangos in their country, and if you see the amount that Mango is used in smoothies and all other type of drinks, desserts or such, that its hard not to understand that this is part of the staple diet--- they do make a great addition to a cocktail as well.
Ok so the waist-line visible suffers a little but this is a holiday not a travel program for TripAdvisor or Expedia or something--- although now I come to mention it --- that would be a very good job for a couple of old travellers like us.
So on the way down to here there were some really great ocean views and some other not so interesting views as follows---
We did get more than a little delayed waiting for this to pass but I am sure that someone out there who is an aficionado of old renovated trains would have been happy to sit there all day---
More Cane
There were several occasions on the drive that it lashed it down but that's ok when in the car--- as long as it is gone when you get out.
So our destination was Airlie Beach which is a really great little town -- apparently a bit of a young persons party town so that's ok--- but again in the area we were in it was virtually emptying at around 9.30 although we did again manage to find a really good restaurant called La Tabella, owned by a charming proprietor called Leni Fries--- yeah ok the jokes can come later. She is now Lynda's best friend because Lynda is sending her the Lynda style Lemonchello , which Leni hopes to make her own speciality.
Our Hotel is the one right behind the beach----
We got a bit of a view of the marina-- well at the from would probably have added $100 --- but still nice room and balcony--
So off today to Rockhampton as we wend our merry way down the coast and I have no idea what that is like but leaving early just in case we can have a spell round a pool.
Hi Ho Silver , away---- well I am silver and so is the car so what the hell-----
